Tattoo Aftercare
Dead Idols // Permanently Marking the Impermanent
Taking care of your tattoo is just as important as getting it. Follow these instructions to ensure proper healing and preserve the quality of your artwork.
1. Leave the Bandage On
If a standard bandage was used, leave it on overnight.
If Saniderm was used, keep it on for 24–48 hours.
It’s normal for the bandage to fill with fluid—do not remove unless you’re experiencing serious discomfort or irritation.
2. Clean Your Tattoo
After removing the bandage:
Wash the area gently with warm water and a non-scented antibacterial gel soap (like Dial Gold).
Use only your fingertips—never a rag, loofah, or sponge.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid bath towels or anything that might carry bacteria or lint.
3. Protect and Moisturize
Once the tattoo is completely dry:
If you have more Saniderm, apply a fresh piece and leave it on for 2–3 days.
Otherwise, use a non-scented, water-based lotion such as Lubriderm or Aveeno.
Do NOT use:
Essential oils
A&D ointment
Triple antibiotic creams (Neosporin)
Oil-based lotions
Apply lotion 2–3 times per day—no more, no less.
4. What to Avoid
For at least two weeks after getting tattooed:
No swimming or soaking
No tanning or direct sun exposure
No tight or abrasive clothing on the tattoo
Avoid touching the tattoo with dirty hands
